ActiveDen and Activetuts: New Names, Same Awesome Content

For just over three fantastic years FlashDen has been the jewel in Envato’s crown. It is our longest running and most active community, and thanks to the amazing authors who showcase their work there, has become the largest marketplace for Adobe Flash files in the world with over 8,500 items for sale.

Last week Adobe asked us to change our name and URL so that it would no longer contain the term ‘Flash’, which is a registered trademark of Adobe. We know that the success of our sites is about the community and content, not the names. So here at Envato HQ we’ve been busy thinking up new names and we think we’ve found a great new home for both our marketplace and our Tuts+ blog on Flash.

As of today the two sites now live at ActiveDen and Activetuts+. (more…)

Blog Action Day 09 – Climate Change

History

In 2007 Collis & Cyan created an initiative. One that combines the growing popularity of social networks and blogs with serious issues and awareness. Blog Action Day has a short but impressive history of uniting people all over the globe to link together, forming a massive chain of writers and readers to help raise awareness and discuss 1 common issue, we all share.

This year the Envato team passed Blog Action Day over to Change.org. Change.org is a site founded on the belief that people want to make a difference, people want to help. The website exists to inform and empower people to combat some of the most urgent issues of our time. Blog Action Day couldn’t be in better hands.

The Issue

This year the issue being addressed is Climate Change. And I figured there was no better way for VideoHive to get involved other than to help share information through our beloved medium; Video. Below are some brilliant examples of motion graphics and video work created to inform, created to empower, created to spark change.

Getting Distributed Couldn’t Be Any Easier!

So, obviously it’s hard to get your film picked up by a distributing firm, or if you haven’t entered it into any film festivals yet, most people don’t know who you are, or even what your film is about.  Truth is, they get hundreds of submissions and approaches each day to distribute some kind of DVD, product or whatever.  Well, what if I told you it was possible to distribute your films without the help of big business or large amounts of inventory and e-shopping carts… and little to no effort on your part?  Well that time has come, my friend, and it’s gonna be good.

A Reminiscence of Media – How Far We Have Come

Since man found out it was possible to record something onto film, it has been a long journey to get where we are today.  From Super 8mm to HDV we have come quite a long way in the last 50 years or so.  We’re going to reminisce about the days of old and how we made our movies back in the day..

Mograph Dynamics in C4D R11.5

If you are a Cinema 4D user, and you haven’t heard yet, Release 11.5 (R11.5) just got released last week.  With it came the Mograph module 2.0 which has some killer looking new features.  Mograph is one of the biggest draws to Cinema 4D besides the easy to learn interface and functions and the ease of interacting with other programs, especially our favorite, Adobe After Effects (which has been upgraded as well… more on that later), and with the new features, it is a force to be reckoned with.  We have already seen a few cool demos floating around the net using Mograph 2.0 such as Nick Campbell’s test renders showing the MoDynamics features (videos after the jump), and Aixsponza’s No Keyframes movie demonstrating MoDynamics in conjunction with Xpresso and C.O.F.F.E.E.

Disney To Acquire Marvel Entertainment

First Pixar, now Marvel?  What’s next?  Oh well, Disney is proving themselves to be quite the super company, now having acquired Marvel Entertainment and their massive plethora of characters that come along with it.  Iron Man, The Hulk, all of the X-Men: all Disney.  For around 4 billion dollars, made up of a mix of stock and cash transactions, Disney owns anything and everything Marvel.  The way this went down was that Disney will pay Marvel shareholders a $30 per share, plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own, based on the exact final price reached on August 28th.
