Top VFX Twitterers To Follow

Personally I think that the whole “updating your status” part of Twitter is ridiculous.  There, I said it.  I don’t care what you are eating for dinner, or if someone is being annoying in the movie theatre.  Keep it to yourself.  The thing that keeps me addicted to Twitter is the people that tweet the cool stuff:  The behind the scenes of Terminator Salvation, The VFX breakdown of Fast and Furious 4, the new tutorial that Aharon Rabinowitz just put onto Red Giant TV.  Those are the reasons why I use Twitter, and these are the people that you should be following.

@Filmbot

Jim Geduldick runs FinalCutUser.com, and also co-hosts After Effects New York with Aharon Rabinowitz.  I get so many amazing resources on programs like After Effects, Avid, Nuke, Final Cut, and just overall compositing and production tweets.  Jim is also a skateboarder, which I think is why I enjoy following him so much as well as being a video professional.  Jim is always posting footage and news on the RED and Canon MarkII.  I get at least 15 tweets a day that I just have to check out from him.

@alba

Eric Alba is a Freelance VFX Supervisor/Producer who has worked at some prestigious post houses such as Psyop, Trollbäck, Superfad, and many more.   Emmy-nominated and working in the industry for over fifteen years, Eric’s tumblr provides the portal for all of his tweets.  He often shows a lot of shorts or inspiring motion/vfx peices, along with some occasional trailers or inside information and a look inside the post production world.

@VideoHive

Yes, yes, our very own Twitter is quite an asset to the twitosphere.  Roger Byrne aka @styletime runs all of the Envato marketplaces, and does a damn good job at it.   I have found many an inspiration from our Twitter feed, not only just After Effects stuff, but all kinds of motion graphics and visual effects inspiring pieces.

@5tu

Stu Maschwitz, former owner of the amazing, late post production facility, The Orphanage, runs ProLost, one of my favorite production blogs.  Stu has worked on a ton of different movies, latest being The Spirit, and is the creator of Magic Bullet and Magic Bullet Looks.  Stu is the author of The DV Rebel’s Guide, which gives you a load of information on how to create stunning visual effects and production just like the big studios, on the cheap.

@Motionographer

This one speaks for itself.  Everyone in the mograph community knows motionographer.com, and the good thing about their twitter account, is it gets updated quite a few times every day, the second that a new post is made on the site.  From feature articles to just links that get reposted on the site, motionographer will not disappoint.

@RedGiantTweet

John Kerr rocks Red Giant’s Twitter feed, and pretty much tweets and retweets anything and everything that mentions a Red Giant plugin somewhere in the twitosphere.   Updates for plugins… oh yeah.  New tutorials posted at Toolfarm… for sure.  Particular 2.0 demos… you know it.  It’s a must follow for anyone that uses Red Giant plugins as religiously as I do.

@AETUTS

An Envato site that goes right along with VideoHive is AEtuts+.  Lloyd Alvarez, the editor of AEtuts+ runs an almost duplicate twitter feed as well… @aescripts.  Lloyd always has killer tweets, and it helps to stay up to date on when new tutorials are released, or when freebies or articles get posted to the site as well.  Tutorials from around the web are also a favorite to tweet from this account, seeing as this is an After Effects themed twitter feed.

@ScottBourne

There are many reason to follow Scott Bourne… he writes for mydl.me, photofocus.com, he has a new podcast… but my favorite reason?  He gives prizes away to his followers every single day!  Drobos, gift cards to ScanCafe.com, year subscriptions to BackJack.com, and Rayflash Ringlights are just a few of the things in the last month or so that I have seen him throw out there.  He also has some great articles, and some really insightful views on photography.

@VisualFXtuts

Yeah, I know… its my site’s Twitter, but what better way to get a list of all the tutorials that have been posted throughout the net the last week or so?  Seriously, you could be getting 50 tutorials sent directly to your twitter inbox every couple days.  Also there are gonna be a ton of twitter giveaways coming very soon.  Visual Effects for Directors DVD box set, Lynda.com training, Graymachine Training, and some other things.

@mikeseymour

I like having Mike in my twitter, because he is one of the more active guys from FXguide and FXphd.  Helps keep me up to date on what classes will be released, when terms start, and when new articles and episodes of FXguideTV are up.  Also there are some occasional fun facts and links out to some cool VFX stuff.  Other twitter feeds from these guys are @johnmontfx and @fxphd.

There’s ten of my favorite twitterers right now.  They are super useful, very intellegent and their tweets give you a lot of insight into our realm here on the internet.  Feel free to suggest some more people, whom I haven’t mentioned… as the months progress I will probably be doing another one of these with a new batch of top twitterers for you to check out!  In the meantime, this is @toe_fur signing off… I’ll see you in a few days.
