New Changes To Quality Standards

We have recently made the decision to raise our quality standards. This isn’t going to be a major transition, and will not negatively impact most. It will raise the quality of work on VideoHive and help us continue to improve the marketplace as a whole.

The most significant change is that we will be disallowing preset submissions, effective immediately. Presets are a great tool to quickly spruce up a composition, but most would agree that they lack the usefulness and value of original work. Additionally the same preset files uploaded by different authors either on VideoHive or over different marketplaces can cause administrative difficulties. The bottom line is that the marketplace is now at a stage where allowing preset files is not reflective of the quality of the marketplace as a whole and the amazing files for sale therein.

A second more minor change is a general raise in our quality standards. Again, this will be a subtle transition implemented over time. Files containing good use of colors, quality, composition, typography, timing, and usability all play important factors in acceptance, and we are just raising the bar a little higher to ensure VideoHive only hosts the best in the industry.

Below are a few factors that we are paying special attention to when reviewing. Files should not contain any of the following issues in order to be accepted:

Stock Footage:

  • Noise/Pixelization
  • Gradient banding
  • Muted colors
  • Out of focus
  • Poor camera control (shaking)
  • Unnecessary zooming, or panning
  • Lack of overall usability

Motion Graphics:

  • Noise/Pixelization
  • Gradient banding
  • Muted color
  • Poor composition
  • Not looping correctly (when file is stated to loop)
  • Lack of overall usability

Project Files:

  • Poor composition
  • Poor project planning (folder structure, layer naming, precomping, etc.)
  • Bad use of typography
  • Bad use of effects
  • Poor timing
  • Inadequate help documentation
  • Lack of overall usability

An important element that can be harder to qualify is useability. Before submission, try to determine if what you are making is usable. Files need to be useable and practical in order to be accepted. This does not mean they cannot suit a very boutique market, but rather that they are obviously useful to one or more buyers.

The Envato network of marketplaces has ultimately had success by offering the high quality files to a large market. Every week VideoHive grows both in library and in sales, and in the coming months we will be doing even more to develop VideoHive into a leader in the stock video world. These new steps will raise the quality standards even higher and help VideoHive move forward.

This is going to be a huge year! Great job everyone.
