ReelDirector Video Editing App for iPhone 3Gs

It was just a matter of time.  Yes, there is now an app for editing the video that you take with your iPhone 3Gs’ built in video camera, so now you can literally edit your home movies on the fly, sitting on the couch, without a computer, while the kids are screaming in your ears.  Life is complete.  It by no means can replace a true NLE like Final Cut, but we weren’t really expecting something like that now were we?  We got the details on what this app has, what’s to come and what to expect from it… oh yeah and there is a usability walkthrough video after the jump… so get a’clickin.

ReelDirector got debuted a week ago from Nexvio Inc, but just hit the video realm blogosphere the last couple of days.  The app only works in the iPhone 3.0 OS or later, and looks at your Camera Roll to grab video clips to edit into polished home movies.  Just like any lower-end editor you have a library of transitions, styles and positioning for titles, and gives you the option to share your movies through email or just save back to your Camera Roll.

The editing aspect of it gives you a thumbnail based timeline, no tracks, but lets you edit the time of the clips, including speed up, slow down and trimming.  While editing the video you can add your titles that have 4 styles and 9 positions for a grand total of… (okay 4 x 9 = uggh.. middle school math…) 36 different looks to your opening titles and/or ending credits!  Editing between your clips and titles you can use any of the 27 different transitions available in the library as well as change the timing of those transitions as well.

The only downside right now for this app is the fact that it is still only a 1 track timeline app (for now), meaning you can’t mix in voiceovers or and music for your videos, besides the ambient noise taken with the source videos themselves.  This shouldn’t last for long though… I foresee this jumping to the top of the App Store in… well I’ll give it a week to be in the Top Ten Most Popular list.  The fine folks at Nexvio assure us though that in the next update they will be adding the feature to include music and voiceover… so its just sit and wait for the last sliver of this dream app to be completed.  But don’t just take my word for how awesome this thing is… you can head over the the App Store and pick it up yourself for only $7.99, check out Nexvio’s website or just watch their walkthrough video for the app itself below.
