The Last Two Weeks on AEtuts+
Our “sister” site, AETuts+ has been hard at work the last month or so with the launch of Plus content to the site, more Plus tutorials, and just more content in general. If you haven’t been to AETuts+ yet, and you work in After Effects… well my friend, what are you waiting for? Get over there and check out the multitude of tutorials and articles loaded with inspiration (a lot by me, actually) to get your brain working.
Every couple weeks we will showcase the tutorials from the past weeks so you can brush up and hone your After Effects skills to learn some new tricks and broaden your horizons when it comes to our favorite application.
Map Your Destination in AE
You guys might know Jorrit Schulte from his work over at AEnhancers.com where he makes a ton of presets and custom effects… FOR FREE, mind you… but in this tutorial he shows you how to create a map of the world, and has an arrow jumping from continent to continent. Not only does this produce a handy little effect, he teaches you a bit about expression, motion paths, transfer modes and color correcting.
Realistic Sniper Scope
With one of the newer AE Plus tutorials on the website, Phil shows you some awesome techniques to use high resolution photos instead of footage to create an awesome looking sniper scope effects… and this isn’t just an overlay… no no no. This actually uses a bunch of expressions (simple ones, mind you) to make the scope’s view magnify and move around like your were searching for someone to gun down. Phil is also a great teacher, talking on camera himself, as well as explaining the theory behind some of the effects like chromatic aberration and focal distortion.
Exclusive Interview With Harry Frank
Satya Meka is one of the more prominent writers and tutorial hosts on AETuts+, and his work always seems to stand out. Jumping a bit out of the norm of things, Satya met up with Harry Frank, the founder of Graymachine of which I, like thousands of you, are huge fans of, and spoke with him about a variety of things from his past, his education, and what is to come in the future.
What’s The Difference?
The editor over at AETuts+ is Adam Everett Miller… he’s a good guy that really knows his stuff, so he put together this massively informative article to teach everyone what the differences are between different concepts and things used in After Effects. I learned a lot from this article like the difference between Custom Effects, Scripts, and Presets, or the difference between Effects and Filters. Even if you think you know all there is to be taken from After Effects, this is quite a good read, because you are bound to find something you didn’t already know.
Use Lights to Project Your Logo
A lot of people give flack when it comes to “copying” techniques that are used at popular sites like Video Copilot or Motionworks, but this isn’t one of those cases. As you can tell, I hound the comments section of AETuts+ and there was a like of crap being dealt, but I think that Eddie really put it out there with a great tutorial explaining light projection as well as using some interesting techniques with Trapcode Particular. Also if you are a fan of the CSTools from inside of Cinema 4D you will love the handy trick using DocuCam to get a handheld looking camera movement created in C4D and ported into After Effects.
40 Spectacular Typography Videos
Ahhh, my second home on the Envato network of sites. You guys have all probably seen my roundups on AETuts, but if you haven’t this article is a great starting point. I found a ton of typography-themed videos from the far reaches blogging universe, to bring you a massive roundup as the sequel to one of my earlier posts on the site entitled 17 Amazing Inspiration Typographic Videos. Enjoy yourself.
Get Your Disco Groove On
This tutorial actually shows yo that, with no matter what version of After Effects that you are running, you can still produce some amazing content. Ramesh is rocking what looks to be AE 6.5 with some Particular and Lux thrown into the mix to make an awesome looking disco scene. If you love written tutorials, then this will be great for you, but if not… give it a try… you will be surprised with the outcome… and I guarantee that you will learn a little something you didn’t know before.
So that’s it guys, the last two weeks over at AEtuts+.
